If I remember, the gear works the same way, So if you make a T4 shield that uses 8 refined resources, it uses up 8 nutrition. I have most of the refining and crafting nutrition costs, but I never bothered to put all the numbers in rows and columns. Nutrition is only used up during the crafting process, as far as I know. So T8 Butter costs the same nutrition as T3 Flour, but it takes longer to craft. I think the T3 Mill has every single item using the same amount of nutrition, however the crafting timers increase as the tier increases. Some of the stations don't work anything like that though.

In those the most important thing is the Tier of the item being crafted and the number of refined resources in the recipe. The stations I am most familiar with are the refining and 'gear' crafting ones (Forge,Tower,Lodge,Toolmaker). This has enough exceptions that you can't trust it. In general, the higher the tier of the item the more nutrition it uses up. This is a complicated topic because different crafting stations work differently, as it relates to nutrition usage.
